"happening now starts right now. >> jon: "happening now" begins with this fox news alert, a horrific story unfolding in the netherlands, brand new video of a soccer stadium collapse in a dutch city, at least 12 injured, one dead, and an unknown number of people still trapped. rick folbaum is on it from the breaking news desk. >> reporter: rescue workers are on the scene trying to reach those people still trapped in the rubble of this soccer stadium. part of the stadium's roof collapsed and while it was being constructed upon they were doing off season construction work. thankfully no gale underway or this place would have been packed with athletes and fans and as you can see from some of the pictures we've gotten the roof came crashing down on to the seats, where the spectators would have been had they been there for a soccer match. those trapped are believed to be construction workers who were there doing this work, it happened in the city about 100 miles or so from amsterdam. we're told that the work on this stadium was to expand it, to make it bigger. we've also gotten so

jenna lee. jon: and i'm jon scott. dramatic new developments in that debt standoff in washington, and we are all over them. president obama speaking just moments ago urging republicans and democrats to reach some kind of compromise. he's warning the u.s. will lose its top credit rating if it falls into an unprecedented default. jenna: and it could lose that rating anyway. that's something we've been hearing a lot this week, that despite some of the decisions made in d.c., we could still see a downgrade. now, the political standoff as we know it is escalating this hour. a senior gop official, a house aide, i should say, telling fox news that house republicans will pass their debt plan today. we thought that yesterday. we'll see if it happens today. a bill that senate democrats say is dead on arrival, though, as they move ahead with their own debt limit bill setting up a showdown vote really for this weekend. ahead of that host of your world, neil cavuto, is live on capitol hill with his observations about what's happening down there in d.c., neil. first of all, let's start off wit

. bad news in the poll for jon huntsman. 2% of the vote. hundredsman can't catch a break in the endorsement game. his former chief of staff, utah congressman and future senator is endorsing mitt romney calling him more lectable. interesting number for you this morning in iowa. iowa republicans are souring on ethanol subsidies. in a new poll conducted by consumer voter research, for the iowa republican 47% of likely republican caucus goers have a very or somewhat positive view of a candidate who wants to cut ethanol subsidies. 24% have a negative reaction to that. finally overnight, tim pawlenty's numbers got higher. he's bringing in the daughter of mike huckabee to run his campaign. she helped put together that campaign in iowa for her dad to win the caucuses and finish second in the straw poll. in an effort to engage the young and tech savvy the president is holding a tweet up this afternoon. topic is the economy and jobs but the thousands of 140 character or less queries submitted versus the ask obama hash tag includes marijuana legalization. and the rnc is going up with an ad

in our team covering it this morning. jake tapper, jon karl on capitol hill. jon, given the deadlock, the senate republican leader mitch mcconnell says he doesn't think a deal can be reached, so he's come up with a last-ditch fallback which puts the burden on the president. >> reporter: last choice option, only if the talks completely collapse. it's complicated but the bottom line is, it would give the president the auththity on his own to gradually raise that debt ceiling by $2.5 trillion between now and the election. the political burden is all the president's. he can do it without spending cuts and even in the face of opposition from the majority in congress. but i've got to tell you, george i talked to a lot of republicans in the house, rank and file, who say it's not acceptable. they want real spending cut, a lot of them and nothing else. >> there's no guarantee of spending cuts even though it would avoid tax increases. let me bring in jake tapper for the response on that. any openness in the white house to that and where do they think the talks are right now? are they as pessim
